I started The Online Rule in December 2013 with a friend from university. I built the original website in WordPress, and together we wrote regular articles looking at how social media use was evolving in the sports industry.

I took the site on myself shortly afterwards and have continued to publish articles ever since. In 2023 I held the site's first ever online event, featuring speakers from The Premier League, TikTok, and Meta. In the same year the site moved to being a regular newsletter.

As part of my work running the site and posting on social media I have been invited to speak on university courses, podcasts, and to contribute towards feedback to football leagues on digital engagement. It has also helped me secure regular work with football clubs.
